CALMINEX

A BALANCED SYNERGISTIC CALMING FORMULA

RECOMMENDED SERVING: Maintenance- 1 scoop daily Competition- 2 scoops daily morning before event (1 scoop = 33 gr) (60 cc scoop included)
INGREDIENTS: Tryptophan, Thiamine (B1), Niacin (B3), Pyridoxine (B6), Magnesium, Live Yeast Culture and MOS (mannan-oligosaccharides) NO FILLERS

Tryptophan (3000 mg per scoop) is an important calming supplement, a precursor of serotonin, meaning it is a building block from which serotonin can be manufactured in the brain. Tryptophan has been proven to improve mood by boosting serotonin levels, which as a neurotransmitter, acts in the brain to reduce anxiety and promotes concentration, calm and relaxation.

Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) (2800 mg per scoop) plays a direct role in transmission of nervous impulses. There is considerable anecdotal evidence for its effectiveness in reducing anxiety in horses. It has been demonstrated to improve concentration and reduce excitability

Vitamin B3 (Niacin) (100 mg per scoop) promotes the production of serotonin in the brain. Niacin also inhibits the enzyme that breaks down tryptophan in the liver. Tryptophan is used to make niacin, but it is a very inefficient process using a good deal of tryptophan to make not very much niacin so, by adding niacin directly in a supplement, the existing tryptophan is ‘spared’ leaving more free to form serotonin and help to calm the horse.

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) (100 mg per scoop) has been associated with PMS in mares who exhibit behaviour changes in their heat cycles. Nervousness and irritability may be manifestations of inadequate Vitamin B6 in any horse because of its function in the production of brain chemicals.

A nervous, irritable and difficult to handle horse may be exhibiting signs of Vitamin B deficiency. Supplementation with Vitamin B is also beneficial for horses heavily stressed (surgery, shipping, infection) or heavily exercised. Toxicity with B vitamins administered in the feed is virtually nonexistent since the kidneys will eliminate any excess.

Magnesium Oxide (6000 mg per scoop) has an important function in the transmission of nervous impulses. It is necessary for the activation of B vitamins, especially thiamine. A deficiency interferes with the transmission of nerve and muscle impulses causing nervousness. Magnesium is considered to be an anti-stress mineral. It functions to relax skeletal muscles as well as the smooth muscle of blood vessels and the gastrointestinal tract.

Yeast (stable live yeast culture) (11,000 mg per scoop) has been scientifically proven to improve the hindgut environment of horses. Cultures that are selected for equine diets have been shown categorically to stimulate good bacteria in the hindgut of the horse improving digestion. Research has concluded that live yeast can reduce excess acidity in equine caecal contents and assist in the restoration of normal gut function which appear to affect temperament in certain horses. Yeast enhances the activity of fibre digesting bacteria, therefore promoting a more efficient use of the vitamins and minerals. Undigested carbohydrates and excess starch can cause high acidity in the hindgut, which can reduce vitamin B formation.

MOS (mannan-oligosaccharides) (10,000 mg per scoop) is a prebiotic and is derived from the outer wall of yeast cells. MOS works by sticking onto pathogenic bacteria so that they cannot become attached to the wall of the gut. MOS also has a beneficial effect on the immune system, as well as improving feed digestibility.

GASTROMAX (formerly known as ULCEREX) (Herbal Formula)

SUPPORTS NORMAL RELAXED FUNCTION OF THE GUT

Human Grade

Directions for use: 2 scoops (65 g) once or twice daily

Slippery Elm Bark - This will act as an internal poultice, reducing over- acid secretions and soothing inflammation for normal healthy recovery of the damaged lining. Will also assist in relaxing the stomach and improving the normal rhythmic action necessary for digestion and fluid secretion.

Meadowsweet Herb Salicylic - acid from Meadowsweet and Willow is the original herbal aspirin. It is particularly effective when used for ulcers resulting from drug use or poisoning. It is one of the best all around herbs for the digestive system and will soothe mucous membranes in the digestive tract, reducing excess acidity and associated pain. It is a valuable anti-inflammatory and astringent herb. Licorice Root has been used for over 3000 years as a digestive and respiratory aid. This herb has the ability to harmonize with many other herbs and tastes pleasant for horses. The active ingredient in Licorice is Glycyrrhizin. It produces a thick sticky mucous when ingested which will reduce gastric acid secretion and encourage healing, particularly for those horses that have completed a treatment with steroids or phenylbutazone, or have gastric ulcers.

Mixed Bioflavonoids, Milk Thistle & Bearberry - Milk thistle is beneficial for the liver. It detoxifies poisons that enter the blood stream. Bioflavonoids are a diverse class of botanical compounds that function within plants as antioxidants, enzyme inhibitors, pigments and light screens. They also are involved with photosensitization, photosynthesis and defense against infection. A growing body of evidence points to a possible connection between plant Bioflavonoids and prevention/treatment of gastric ulceration in mammals. Some Bioflavonoids have been reported to be as effective as cimetidine in reducing total gastric secretion, reducing the free and total acids in the gastric secretions, and reducing gastric mucosal histamine. Research has shown that combinations of flavonoids are able to reduce ulceration in rats by up to 99%. In addition, the flavonic fraction of Milk Thistle and Bearberry prevented the development of and/or improved the healing of rat ulcers.

Marshmallow Root - It’s mucilaginous qualities make it ideal for the treatment of inflammation and ulceration of the digestive system as well as stomach and intestinal disorders. Specific for any condition of the digestive system such as gastric ulceration, soothes the gut.

Chamomile Flowers (German Chamomile) - Stabling conditions, diet, training and competition can create stress and agitation and contribute to the possibility of ulcers. HOOFEFEX

A BIOTIN FORMULA TO PROVIDE NUTRITIONAL FACTORS FOR HOOF GROWTH AND HEALTH

Pharmaceutical Grade

Recommended Servings: 1 scoop (33 gr) once daily (60cc scoop included)

Biotin (20 mg per scoop) Biotin is a water soluble B-group vitamin and is a crucial co-factor in hoof keratination. This sulfur containing vitamin is especially important for the maintenance of hooves and significant for the health of all connective tissue structures, stimulates keratin production in the hoof, hoof wall, sole and frog with an added benefit of improvement of the horses general appearance and luster.

Horses with poor quality hooves may benefit from supplementation at 20 mg daily, higher doses are suggested for horses receiving little or no grain. Biotin is beneficial for hooves that are shelly and brittle.

Methionine (4000 mg per scoop), Lysine (2000 mg per scoop) Methionine and Lysine are two essential amino acids, often deficient in equine feeds and indications are poor quality hoof, skin and coat, as well as tendon and ligament problems. Delayed wound healing and low tolerance to stress and exercise are also signs of deficiency. These amino acids are key components of the protein Keratin, “the major protein in hoof horn” and are vital building blocks in the construction of the hoof. These crucial building blocks must be present to ensure full utilization of Biotin. Methionine is a sulfur containing amino acid essential for formation of strong hooves. Lysine is the first key to unlocking protein efficiency.
Zinc (300 mg). Copper (100 mg), Manganese (200 mg per scoop) These chelated trace minerals are micronutrients essential for proper functioning of many enzyme systems and play a part in the formation of keratin and collagen which are vital for healthy hooves, hair and skin. A deficiency in any one of these nutrients will impact the efficiency of the others. Supplemental zinc and copper in the proper ratio can substantially improve the body’s ability to grow and heal hoof tissues. It is critical to maintain a 3:1 zinc: copper ratio in order to sustain optimum absorption.

Manganese and zinc are co-factors to anti-oxidant enzyme systems, known to be important for hoof health. Manganese levels in many common diets are likely to be incomplete. Copper deficiency may play a role in the development of arthritis, tendon and ligament problems, as well as hoof problems.

MSM (10,000 mg per scoop) MSM is one of nature’s best sources of dietary sulfur. Inadequate amounts will lead to poor hoof strength, tendon and ligament weakness and poor joint cartilage quality.
Kelp (8000 mg per scoop) Kelp is an excellent form of multi-vitamin and hoof supplement, containing balanced quantities of essential minerals such as iron, selenium, iodine, sulfur, copper, magnesium, zinc, as well as beta carotene, Vitamins C, D and E, B1 and B2, niacin, and up to twenty different amino acids.

Brewers’ Yeast (8533 mg per scoop) This natural pro-biotic supplement promotes gut health improving digestion and nutrient availability. Yeast is an excellent source of B vitamins complementing Biotin. Contains all of the B-complex vitamins.

Note: If you use an effective supplement like Hoofefex, you should see new hoof growth in approximately 4-6 weeks. It may take up to 9 months for your horse to grow a completely new hoof.
